Family Law Workshops

The Bar Association of Contra Costa County and the Family Law Facilitator program offer free workshops to help people who are representing themselves in Family Law cases.

Divorce Workshops in Martinez (and Walnut Creek): Opens new window
These workshops are held in the conference room, Family Law Center at 751 Pine Street in Martinez, and video-conferenced to the Walnut Creek Courthouse, jury assembly room at 640 Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek, from 2:00-4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

  • Every Monday: How to start your divorce
             (Drop in - no appointment necessary)
  • 1st Wednesday: How to finish your dissolution (divorce)
      This workshop is by appointment only in Martinez and Walnut Creek and space is limited. Come to the Martinez Family Law Center Help Desk at 751 Pine Street, to make an appointment for this workshop at least one week before you plan to attend the workshop. Court staff will review your case and tell you what forms need to be filed before you attend this workshop.
  • 2nd Wednesday: How to start your divorce
      (Drop in - no appointment necessary)
  • 3rd Wednesday:  (No workshop)

  • 4th Wednesday: How to start your divorce.
      (Drop in - no appointment necessary)

    (Note: No workshops on the 5th Wednesday)

These workshops are held in the Richmond Courthouse, Room 201, 100-37th Street, Richmond, on the following schedule:

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd Tuesday How to Start Your Divorce.  Begins at 9:00 am and lasts 2-3 hours
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd Wednesday Como Comenzar un Caso de Divorcio (Español).
    (primero, segundo, tercero miércoles, comienza en el 9:00 y dura 2-3 horas)

ACE Nights

Attorney Counseling Evenings, or ACE Nights, are drop-in free legal clinics where volunteer attorneys or qualified legal professionals help members of the public handle their own legal dispute.

Senior Self-Help Clinic

Every Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon in the  at the

Peter Spinetta Family Law Center,
751 Pine Street, 2nd Floor conference room, Martinez, CA.
Telephone: (925) 957-7947 (answered only during clinic hours,
but messages may be left at any time).

This clinic is available to Contra Costa County residents age 60 and older who represent themselves in court (i.e. do not have an attorney). Clinic staff is available to assist with Elder Abuse Temporary Restraining Orders, landlord/tenant cases, consumer credit cases, and other civil legal matters affecting seniors. The Clinic is available on a drop-in basis or by telephone.
